Dave Brown and Vi Hart's:"Scale of the Universe" dubstep/rap is epic and unbeatable. So rather than try to out do it, I've gone for a different kind of epic.

ALAN'S LENGTHY THOUGHTS
To my ear, what I've written is "classic epic movie trailer" music -- but I've tried to break the formula in a few small ways. I listened to Dave's poem on repeat and improvised piano parts over it, messing around with tempos and time signatures until something settled and stuck. The chords (and the melody in one part) deliberately steals from Coldplay's "The Scientist" -- as a sort of joke... or something.
One key difference however is the transition from F major to A major, rather than F major to C major. Also there are six bars in the chord sequence, rather than 4:
D minor
Bb major
F major
A major
Bb major
A major
The music you're listening to here was built from my favourite piano take. I did about 10 different solo piano takes until I was happy. It was easy to then add strings, brass and percussion to flesh out the piece.
