About this song:
Echolocation is a electronic synthy, VGM inspired bop about not giving up and trusting the process. I wrote and produced this song, and Josiah mastered it! DonutDrums once again recorded awesome drums in this one. This January, I was feeling so burned out and was laying on the floor. I felt like I couldn't muster the energy to get up and keep going with all of our work and projects. 2022 was so awesome - we had just put out our first EP, had a super busy prior year, and we were just super tired. I didn't know where to gain energy from, it felt just out of reach.
Our main jobs are writing/producing music, doing vids/pics/logos/promo, livestreaming on twitch, and then there's performing out in the real world as much as we can. When we focus on one of them, another one falls behind. I could talk about this for hours! Anyways, there I was on the floor - wishing to take a break and write songs (which I haven't had time to do in a long time) - and the lyrics and melody came to me. I got off the floor and wrote/recorded the whole song. One of the synths was called "Echolocation" synth, and I thought of that being like a prayer/wish to call out to the ether to ask for help, encouragement, inspiration. Also, of course, it's how orcas communicate with one another, all in their own dialects with their particular pod. That's another inspiration for Echo, because I feel that I can communicate with Josiah and the band in such a unique way with music and sound. And THAT even extends further, because so many of us connect with each other in a special way through music. It's kinda hard to put these thoughts into words concisely because it's all a super emotion led process, but it's one of my favorite things about writing music!
There's some shots of us performing this live on twitch within the video! I wanted a couple shots us all together, but since we didn't have someone else to film us, the best way to get that was through a twitch VOD. Josiah plays guitar for the live version of Echo - it's not in the audio of the studio recording - but I wanted the live performance shots regardless, so they're in here! There's an extra fun energy when we are all performing together for twitch friends and they use fun emotes!
I feel like I haven't dove far into the stories behind the songs here on YouTube! We talk about this a lot on twitch, and if you aren't already, feel free to join us there and hang with us in the stream! We play music most days a week, including our originals, vgm, anime, and other fun stuff!
