A big male raccoon shows this opossum the utmost respect. The opossum displays it's sharp teeth and growls/hisses (if you listen carefully), but it's all a bluff. The Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana) has the most teeth of any land mammal in North America, boasting a total of 50. These sharp teeth, which include 10 upper incisors, are used for an omnivorous diet and often bared in a "grinning" display when the animal feels threatened.
