Anne of Cleves is one of the most unusual figures in English royal history. Although she is remembered as the fourth wife of King Henry VIII, she was queen for only a few months. Unlike two of Henry’s wives, she was never executed. Unlike two others, she did not die during childbirth. Instead, Anne survived her marriage, remained on good terms with the king, and lived quietly for another seventeen years. She even outlived Henry himself, as well as his son Edward VI.
