James joined us to share his work on DALL-E 3!
James has a super fascinating story. He worked in the security space back at Google. In his free time he open-sourced tortoise TTS which captured the attention of many researchers back in 2021. One thing led to another and he got hired by OpenAI to work on DALL-E 3. :)
The interesting insight he had was that we should use synthetic data to train these systems which was not a mainstream idea back in 2021. He also took insights from the DALL-E paper (diffusion models) in building his project. I personally wouldn't be surprised if companies such as 11labs simply took his work and built on top of it :)
