Today I get the pleasure of showing you how my former pastor warns his congregation that the devil is stealing the country from them (using the behavior of certain people he finds distasteful) and gets them psyched up on the idea that they were placed at this point in history to fight him at this most pivotal point in U.S. history. It's truly bizarre and frankly delusional.
This is what I identify as his second step in telling his congregation how to vote. Last time he prepped them with the idea that they're his sheep and he's their shepherd relaying God's instructions for how obedient followers of Jesus will vote. This time he rallies them with the aforementioned fantasy that they're soldiers here to fight the important spiritual battle in American history, and next time he will suggest what he wants a theocracy to look like and how we should start getting there.
Whether you're Christian or non-Christian, liberal or conservative, this is something you should find concerning. I know some of you will find the way I address his authoritarian approach to politics to be political itself and won't enjoy my foray on the subject. Some of you may think I'm too liberal or I need to stay in my lane and just talk about religion. But this IS about religion - and you can't talk about it in our society today without talking about how it intrudes into politics. If you're conservative for better reasons than he is and wouldn't use his tactics to manipulate people with claims that you're God's chosen spokesperson, then this video is not addressing you and your conclusions. It's addressing HOW he arrives at his conclusion. That all said, if you watch this video and walk away both liking me less and recognizing the problem I'm bringing up, I can live with that. Even if views lag for a few weeks and even if I lose momentum and subscribers, this is something that needs to be talked about.
I'll also note that I'm not an expert on transgender people in sports and am not claiming to have fleshed out all the nuance on the topic. I know I haven't. I'm addressing how he specifically grossly misrepresents the topic and uses it to paint all transgender people.
Notes on the high school student from scenario 1:
1) As I read their regulations, the Alaska School Activities Association is actually pretty loose in its rules on trangender athletes and just leaves it to individual school districts to decide who can play in boys’ and girls’ sports - so there admittedly may be a question of competitive fairness to be raised here.
2) The athlete in question identified as female long before this track meet and at least reported taking female hormones and testosterone suppressing drugs.
3) She took third in one event and fifth in another, so she didn’t exactly storm in and steamroll all her cisgendered opponents.
