HLN | Only One Black Person on the Jury? @hln | Uploaded November 2021 | Updated October 2024, 4 days ago.
HLN legal analyst Joey Jackson explains how a jury, who will hear the case of three white men accused of murder in the shooting death of a black jogger, ended up with only one black member.
Jackson calls the selection process "highly problematic" and speaks directly to the judge (who is allowing the case to move forward despite pointing out "intentional discrimination") saying, "Do something" to fix it!
Before there was George Floyd or Breonna Taylor, nationwide protests and racial reckoning, there was Ahmaud Arbery. A 25-year-old man, shot to death, his family says, while jogging less than two miles from his home. He was chased down by three men in pickup trucks: Former police officer Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and their neighbor William Bryan. They say Arbery, who was unarmed, had committed a crime in their neighborhood. The moment became a flashpoint in American history, but after a dramatic 911 call, a viral video of the chase & shooting, and police bodycam footage, why did it take 75 days to make an arrest?
The trial of the McMichaels and William "Rodie" Bryan is on the HLN television network. Watch gavel-to-gavel coverage LIVE, every day court is in session.
