Meet George from Tom’s Sons International Pleating in New York, a third generation master pleater walking us through the real process used to create perfectly crisp pleats. Fabric is carefully laid into custom molds, rolled, pressed, and then “cooked” in a massive pressurized steam cabinet to permanently set the pleats.
One more thing to know. Pleating takes more fabric than you think. The classic rule is three yards in becomes one yard out once the pleats are set.
Craftsmanship like this is why pleating is still an art form 🧵
