Set during Japan’s bloody Sengoku period, Onimusha: Warlords follows the legendary samurai Samanosuke Akechi as he battles an army of supernatural demons known as the Genma.
After witnessing the death of warlord Nobunaga Oda during the Battle of Okehazama, Samanosuke receives a desperate letter from his cousin, Princess Yuki. Strange disappearances are occurring at Inabayama Castle, and Yuki fears that monsters are responsible. Samanosuke and the ninja Kaede arrive to rescue her, but they are too late. Yuki is kidnapped by the Genma, and Samanosuke is nearly killed by a powerful demon.
While unconscious, Samanosuke is chosen by the Oni, ancient enemies of the Genma. They grant him the supernatural power of the Oni Gauntlet, allowing him to absorb the souls of defeated demons and wield powerful elemental weapons.
As Samanosuke explores the castle, he discovers the terrifying truth: the Genma have resurrected Nobunaga, who has entered into a dark pact with the demons. Their plan is to sacrifice Princess Yuki and the orphan Yumemaru in a ritual that will give Nobunaga unimaginable power.
Samanosuke fights his way through Genma warriors, monstrous bosses, and Nobunaga's forces as he uncovers the Genma's sinister plans. Eventually, he obtains the legendary Bishamon Sword and transforms into the True Onimusha.
In the final battle, Samanosuke confronts Fortinbras, the God of Light and ruler of the Genma. After an intense battle, Samanosuke defeats Fortinbras and destroys the Genma's plan. Princess Yuki and Yumemaru are saved, while Nobunaga remains alive and continues his conquest of Japan.
The story ends with Samanosuke's fate uncertain, setting the stage for the events of the Onimusha series
