Made for Audio Secret Santa '20. An electronic-orchestral hybrid that speaks to the stoppage of time.
I'm assigning post hoc a metacommentary meaning to this track that ties into one of my previous singles, Zo (youtube.com/watch?v=cSxkOhK65Sk). 2020 has been a crazy experience and I think the songs, side by side, resonate strongly with how my perspective on the state of life has changed.
Some musical notes about Nadir:
- Miyolophone and sleepless helped me with renders of various orchestral sounds. Cool people they are! You should witness their coolness yourself someday
- The sonic progression of the piece is constructed out of about six independent ideas that I figured out how to combine in a meaningful way.
- The crazy section at around 2.25 minutes in has 11-let swing with a 6-5 subdivision, which I didn't plan for when I was writing it but it felt like the appropriate timing
- I've had the main melody for this song in my head for a while so I'm happy that I was able to get it out in a way that I feel like does it some justice. Obviously I'll feel differently about that in a year when I improve some more
Enjoy. And thanks for your support this past year! It's been insane.
