Back at it again with my Spider-Man hyperfixation. It never leaves, just remains dormant.
Holy shit you guys. Holy SHIT you guys. I don’t even know where to start this description. I have so many emotions and feelings about this game and this video. Uh ok, so I guess I’ll start with a wee bit of backstory: I am a HUGE Venom/Black Suit Spider-Man fan. The Spectacular Spider-Man episodes and Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 were actually my initial introduction to Spider-Man as a whole and how I feel in love with the character. As I got older though, I came to appreciate the original storyline more and more…and it’s adaptations less and less. Don’t get me wrong, some of them get pretty close (most notably SSM), but most of them…eh. I don’t think they really understand the weight and tragedy the story carries. Of Peter becoming a monster, one with his inner demons, and then creating a monster in turn through the consequences of that. I have a deep love for the horror of not being in control of one’s impulses and intrusive thoughts, I think there’s a lot to analyze in stories like that. So imagine MY hype when this storyline was announced for Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 after the first one was already super fucking good. Like the first game immediately understood the spirit of Peter and his rouges gallery whilst also making changes that made the story worthwhile. So I had a lot of expectations, and holy FUCK were those expectations met. This has easily become my FAVORITE piece of Spider-Man anything EVER. I am THRIVING. This is everything I’ve ever wanted and more.
I knew when the first gameplay teaser came out I was going to make a video for this, and I had a couple of different songs in mind. NGL in the beginning I was kicking myself for having used Darkside already, because I thought that would’ve worked really well. BUT I’m glad that wasn’t an option for me because then I could use this song! I had this song in mind for a multi fandom video originally but it didn’t really stick. THRILLED it didn’t because this worked out much better. It’s funny because it wasn’t even one of my original choices, I just kinda remembered it on a whim! And it fits this game perfectly. Plus the violent rock music is very fitting for the more intense moments of the game. I was very back and forth about adding text, and in the end I did decide that I liked how it looked with it but I kept it VERY simple, not wanting to overshadow the actual footage. And I was pretty sparse with sound effects, only adding a few in there because this was a video where I mostly wanted the music to stick out. Honestly the only reason any sound effects are in here is because I REALLY wanted to use that one “Run” VO, which is the first time you hear Venom’s voice in the game. Gave me CHILLS and if I was to have any type of VO in here in NEEDED to be that. And I had to add at least on iconic Venom roar. Too good not to. Anyways this is definitely one of my favorite videos in terms of editing with a hard rock song, I definitely feel like I matched the intensity of the music and the clips better than I have in the past. What’s this? TWO mermay MEP parts in a row??? Say it ain’t so.
Well this was very much unplanned. SeleneTheWerewolf has had this pirate & mermaid themed MEP up for a few years now, and seeing as I had some time on my hands I thought I’d help out in getting it done! And boy did I decide to challenge myself.
I’ve been wanting to edit an older couple on here for quite sometime, as I feel the few older characters we do have access to are not used much in the romance setting. I feel there’s a lot of interesting and unique combos you can do for it. And here’s one to start!
I love love LOVE using Hassan so much, he has such a good variety of footage. I wanted to use him in Arcade, originally, but I wasn’t happy with how the part was coming out so I decided to scrape it and use him here instead. Which therefore meant using Athena has the mermaid of choice! And uh lemme tell ya she is no Ariel. She gave me a LOT of trouble in this part. But it was worth it because I do think these two look cute together and I really like the final product a lot! Enjoy!
STORY:
A lonely pirate has a secret: he’s in love with a mermaid, and visits her on an abandoned shoreline. Unfortunately, the secret gets out and he’s ambushed by rival pirates who blackmail him to give away her location. The lovers now find themselves to be prisoners, the pirate being the only one to remain alive. But he won’t let that to happen, and acts accordingly.")
