This is me performing an old Traditional English song called 'I Must Live All Alone'.
But this video isn't just about the song, or just about the performance of the song. It's also about capturing this performance in the best possible way.
This song was recorded with a single ribbon mic. I love these simple one mic recordings, I find it has a very natural sound to it.
As a performer it's very liberating just having one mic to record into.
I also find that ribbon mics are very forgiving. I tend to move around a lot when I play and sing but the mic still manages to pick up everything without any volume loss.
When using one mic, getting the right position is everything, especially when using multiple sound sources so it took a bit of trial and error to get the sound I wanted.

The guitar is a 1994 Lowden O10 with Mahogany back and sides and Cedar top.
