Christians often say "Jesus died for your sins" without examining the meaning of what is being said. In the Old Testament, the Jews are explicitly told by God that they can only atone for their sins by transferring them to an innocent animal, slaughtering it, then burning it on an altar. This appeases God's anger and creates a "pleasing aroma to the Lord". (see Leviticus) Christians inherited this tradition of blood sacrifice and expanded it with the idea that the only blood pure enough to appease God's anger was his own (since Jesus is an incarnation of himself).
Questions:
1. How does sacrificing himself to himself to appease his own anger make any logical sense?
2. How exactly does shedding blood of innocent victims make anything better? Shouldn't an infinitely powerful god be able to come up with a more efficient way of forgiving people for their mistakes than by demanding they kill innocent victims?
I also challenge every Bible believer to do what most never do, and read the book of Leviticus from start to finish (takes 10-15 minutes), Ask yourself honestly: Why is the creator of hundreds of trillions of stars is so obsessed with the smell of burning blood? And why is he apparently unable to do what every human being on earth is capable of doing (forgiving others without demanding the suffering and death of others in return).
