One of my favorite ways to log hours on the horn at home is to make multi-track recordings, both music and exercises.
This began as an arrangement for big band, which I’ll be playing next weekend at the CIMVO brass festival in Valencia.
In preparation for that concert, instead of just practicing my part, I decided to practice ALL the parts! 😆
The biggest challenge with this music is to stay extremely tight rhythmically, otherwise it gets very messy very quickly.
Plus whenever you’re stacking so many parts, a few out-of-tune notes here and there really add up and start sounding pretty sour. So this is really a tightrope walk of accuracy.
I challenged myself to record everything in no more than 3 takes.
I hope you enjoy, and that this inspires you to challenge yourself to multitrack as well. There’s no better way to clean up the details in your playing.
