Peștera Ghețarul de la Scărișoara is home to one of the oldest and largest underground glaciers in Europe. Hidden deep beneath the Apuseni Mountains, the cave contains massive ice formations that have survived for thousands of years.

Descending into the cave feels like stepping into another world, where ancient ice, towering chambers, and cool temperatures create one of Romania’s most extraordinary natural attractions.

📍 Location: Alba County, Romania
Highlights: Underground glacier, ice formations, limestone cave, Apuseni Mountains
Best time: Late spring to autumn, when the cave is easily accessible
