What gives Western art its unique soul? Is it the history, the landscape, or something deeper?
In this short documentary, we explore the incredible connection between the American West's natural environment and the art that springs from it. From historical artifacts in museums to the workshops of modern artisans, the spirit of the West is handcrafted from the materials found in its own backyard. We'll talk with an archivist and historian about the deep-seated traditions of Western design and meet John Gallis, a woodworking artisan who forages for gnarled juniper wood in the foothills of Wyoming to create one-of-a-kind furniture. This is the story of how nature itself is transformed into art.
