In 2018, Lee High School participated in the One Book Project. The entire school: students, staff and administrators read the graphic novel, March, incorporating the book across curriculums for an entire school year. Part of a trilogy, March, book one begins with the early life of civil rights icon, Congressman John Lewis. On July 23, 2020, The Fairfax County School Board voted to rename Robert E. Lee High School after the late U.S. Congressman John R. Lewis. The new name will be effective for the 2020-21 school year.
