Former professional soccer player and Mexican National Team member Janelly Farias joins the show to discuss her new book, “Surviving Women’s Soccer.” In her memoir, Farias writes openly about mental health struggles, coming out as a lesbian athlete, taking on corrupt systems, and a near-death experience on a Mexican reality TV show. Farias is now an Emmy Award-winning soccer commentator and came to Vanderbilt to speak to the women’s soccer team and the ‘Fútbol-Soccer: Culture, Gender, and Diaspora’ course taught by Prof. Celso Castilho.
