As some of you may know, I was recently involved in an unusual case of video stealing. I'll explain the story from the beginning.

It all started when a video editing YouTuber by the name of Miya Addison opened a Wires Multifandom MEP. When I saw it, I decided that I'd rather not sign up due to being busy and because of how many MEPs the song Wires has and it wasn't a song I hugely loved, so one MEP part for it was enough. Once the finished MEP was up, I decided that I'd watch other projects for a bit, but eventually, while I was chatting about Love Live with another video editing YouTuber, Creamcola, on a studio chat, I decided to watch the MEP while I was waiting for my LP to be restored on the game so I could attempt to clear Anemone Heart on Expert difficulty. I instinctively look at the descriptions of completed MEPs, and when I look, I see that I was written down for part 3 using Madoka Magica. At first, I thought I forgot about joining the MEP, but I watched through the first two parts, I saw the beginning of the MEP part I made for a Wires Madoka Magica MEP hosted by Creamcola.

I decided to leave a comment asking why she did this. Meanwhile, I decided to gather a group of people in case things took a certain turn with Miya. Recently, Miya has released an apology video and also explained why she decided to take my old MEP part and build a new MEP around it without my knowledge or consent. Her reasoning was that she didn't want the MEP part "to go to waste." Even with this video, I still have decided that after I create this video and after any uproar on this comment section or the apology videos go down, I will end association with Miya Addison's channel.

Let me clarify that in the video editing world, no MEP part or project ever goes to waste. Every audio clip edited with is an opportunity to smooth out effects that you've been using or even try new effects. Every clip of editing has the potential to bring inspiration to somebody who needs it. If people only ever did MEP parts for MEPs that had a definite future of getting finished, many editing styles as they look like today would be a lot different. On top of this, the Wires PMMM MEP hasn't been cancelled, it has just taken a while to get finished and I'm sure that Creamcola still has plans to finish it.

While she did note in the description of that MEP that I created the part, I have a belief that upon the creation of an MEP part, only the original editor and the host(s) of the MEP are allowed to reuse it in any way with proper credit. By using the MEP part from an MEP that wasn't officially cancelled for a different MEP, that will be a handicap for the host of the MEP, Creamcola. The likely action that I'm going to take is to remake the Wires MEP part for Creamcola, because as I have stated, I'm unhappy with my MEP part presently because it was made before I used coloring and there were many failed effects. As well, I'm going to make it to apologize to Creamcola for having to go through this. Keep in mind all this was done without discussion with Creamcola or me. I also feel bad for all the other editors in her Wires MEP who unknowingly participated in an unethical MEP.

I've heard an argument saying that we've all stolen by logic because of the clips, fanart, and music. First of all, when people state fandoms or songs in the descriptions of their videos or even answer people who ask about it, we give credit to the clips (if there are any) and the music right there. For example, in my monthly MEP dumps, the songs and fandoms are right there. As for fanart, some editors source fanart and even if they don't, in this case, wouldn't stealing a video with all these elements be a whole second layer of theft? Besides, Miya has other cases of stolen videos and it isn't just this situation.

I'm glad that many are able to share what they think and are able to tell Miya what she did wrong. Some may say that we went too far with YouTube commenting, but the more people who comment about how she messed up and the more seriously this is taken, the more ingrained the message will be that video stealing is not acceptable in the editing community. If I didn't take what happened all too seriously, Miya could do this to another editor thinking using other people's MEP parts for other's projects for her own gain is completely tolerable.

Also, I do not approve of the death threats or the insults Miya received for this. I remember when I first assembled the people to back me up against Miya, I specifically told them that insults against her or anyone else defending her should be avoided. I wouldn't want Miya to die for this because if she dies while getting her consequences for what she has done, what can she take from it?

I may or may not decide to associate with Miya Addison in the likely distant future, but for now, it's time for lessons to be learned.
