PETE ROBERTS
Founder of Origin & Jocko Fuel, 3rd Degree BJJ Black Belt, On a Mission to Reclaim American Manufacturing šŗšø
How does one go from Martial Arts to owning a manufacturing business?Just ask this weekās TNQ Podcast guest, Pete Roberts. He realized that in Martial Arts, the same uniform had been used for over 200 years, so Pete created his own opportunity to build a fresh brand of Jiu Jitsu wearables. He wanted to have control over research and development, textiles, and the design process, and because he knew that Franklin County in Maine had a rich manufacturing heritage, he took action. But his endeavor was seemingly derailed as Pete could not find a U.S. manufacturer who could create his unique line of products.
What to do? Pete decided to take matters into his own hands ā literally. He built a manufacturing warehouse with affordable cold storage warehouse servicesā spinning yarn, weaving fabrics, textiles, and designs, and began sewing his own line of uniforms and began his marketing efforts with simple, low budget ads.
Peteās company, Origin USA, now has multiple manufacturing facilities, incorporating the ancestry of manufacturing, hiring the older generation and millennials alike. This is the true American entrepreneur spirit at its finest.
In this episode you will hear:
⢠My wife and I have been together since we were 16. You do that by buying into each otherās personal goals and ambitions.⢠I use my ADHD as a superpower.⢠Iāve used the tools of Jiu Jitsu ā timing, leverage, opportunity and applied it to reinventing gear for it.⢠I started with old, cast iron sewing machines, and no bathroom.⢠If you embrace the power of the American spirit, you can truly do anything.⢠Corporate greed chose profit over people.⢠If we can own the supply chain, we can protect it.⢠[Morgan] You brought something that was lost and brought it back to life.⢠Some folks will invest $75,000 in a vehicle. Why not invest that money in yourself? If you have an idea or a dream, donāt be scared of the unknown.⢠The single most valuable thing is keeping a singleness of purpose. Stay focused on one thing and be great at it.⢠I know that what we are doing hasnāt been done in 100 years. Itās not unique ā itās hard.⢠People are born every day that will be more talented than you, but what they donāt have is the ambition to go all in and invest in themselves.⢠Be a savage of the body, a pioneer of the heart, and an operator of the mind

![JULIE WERHNYAK: An Officers Story Of A Lethal Enounter In The Line Of Duty
Surviving the Unthinkable: A Law Enforcement Officerās Story of Courage and Recovery
In this weekās Team Never Quit episode, Marcus and Melanie meet with Julie Werhnyak, a former Tempe, Arizona police officer whose life changed forever on March 3, 2015. Julie shares her harrowing experience, the split-second decisions she had to make, and how she drew upon her training and resilience to survive being stabbed in the neck.
Julie had a routine before starting her shift. But on that fateful Tuesday morning, she sensed something was amiss. A premonition led her to alter her routine and mentally prepare for what lay ahead.
Responding to a call for a welfare check, Julie and a colleague encountered a situation that quickly escalated.
As they attempted to gain entry to the residence, Julieās worst fears were realized. A violent suspect emerged, armed and dangerous. In a split-second decision, Julie confronted the assailant, risking her life to protect others.
Julieās bravery came at a cost. She sustained severe injuries during the confrontation, but her training and resolve kept her focused on survival. With the support of her colleagues and medical personnel, Julie began her journey towards recovery.
Despite the physical and emotional toll of her ordeal, Julie returned to duty, driven by a sense of duty and resilience. However, the challenges didnāt end there. Julie reflects on the importance of proper psychological support for law enforcement officers facing trauma.
After two decades of service, Julie recently retired from the force. With her company, Artemis Self-Defense, Julie continues to empower others through tactical and self-defense education. Her story serves as a testament to the power of training, resilience, and community support.
Julie Werhnyakās journey is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and the strength it takes to overcome adversity.
In this episode you will hear:
⢠My best never quit story wouldāve been during my martial arts training and because of those never quit moments, thatās how I was able to survive the stabbing that I incurred. (5:50)
⢠Every day I put on my Tempe Police uniform I spoke some version of mantra which is āI accept and expect I will be involved in a lethal encounter today, and I will do everything I can to insure my survival.ā (8:36)
⢠As soon as the muzzle of my gun touches his body, and I fire my first round, the knife penetrates my neck, just above the left clavicle. (19:24)
⢠I started on my tactical breathing to slow everything down, so that hopefully I would bleed out. (21:31)
⢠My first thought was, āOh shitā, not because I was scared but because I knew I couldnāt get out of the way and I was gonna be stabbed. (28:32)
⢠The trauma doctor attributed not only my survival but her [the victimās] survival to physical conditioning. (29:35)
⢠It missed my carotid [artery] by less than an inch. (33:05)
⢠[The perpetrator] was a 26 year old guy with his whole life ahead of him. He had a family who loved him. (35:07)
⢠I survived because I was prepared. (39:16)
⢠I wasnāt thinking I was gonna die, I was too focused on living. (39:47)
⢠I knew that if I was in a knife fight I would probably be cut, but it would be what I did next that mattered. (44:18)

![MIKE PENN: Navy Fighter Pilot Shot Down Over Vietnam Shares His Story as a POW for 8 Months
From the Skies Over Vietnam to the Power of Healing ā The Story of Mike Penn
This weekās Team Never Quit guest, Mike Penn, embodies courage, resilience, and grace under pressure. A Navy fighter pilot who served in Vietnam over 50 years ago, Pennās life took a dramatic turn on August 6, 1972, during his 85th combat mission off the USS Midway. Shot down and captured by enemy forces, he endured eight harrowing months as a POW in Hanoi, facing starvation, torture, and isolation. Losing 60 pounds and battling injuries from the crash, he survived where many did not.
Upon returning home, Penn continued to serve his country before transitioning to a long and successful career as an airline pilot. Yet, his greatest battles werenāt fought in the skiesāthey were fought within. Like countless Veterans, Penn wrestled with PTSD and alcoholism, learning that even the strongest warriors canāt always go it alone.
Penn credits his recovery and renewed purpose to sheer determination, the support of fellow Veterans, and the care he received through the Houston VA, which later discovered a life-threatening cancer during a routine scanāsaving his life once again.
Today, Penn continues to inspire others through motivational speaking, encouraging Veterans to seek help, share their stories, and lean on one another. His outlook remains deeply positive: despite his suffering, he still calls it āan honor to serve.ā
Join us as we hear Mike Pennās incredible journeyāfrom fighter pilot to prisoner of war to survivor and mentor. His story is a testament to resilience, faith, and the healing power of community.
Thank you, Mike Penn, for your honorable serviceāand for reminding us that healing begins when we choose to reach out.

In This Episode You Will Hear:
⢠Iād wake up at 5am, throw my hockey equipment on, and walk in below freezing weather, like about ½ mile to the ice rink for practice at 5:30am. Practice until 7am, then from there, with my hockey bag, Iād go to school, all sweaty and nasty, and when I was finished, Iād go back to the hockey rink. (4:31)
⢠When I was getting recruited to go into the Air Force reserve, I was in a terrible car accident, and I amputated my left foot. And through a series of miraculous events, the next morning I woke up ā best sight I ever had in my life. I woke up, looked down; I had sheets over my legs, and there were two points. (9:52)
⢠I went to the recruiter to join the Air Force, and realized I was color blind. I couldnāt fly but I had a nursing degree. They had flight nurses, and you can fly in the back of the plane.
⢠The drive is: āI want to serve.ā (12:10)
⢠On the 4th of July, I make my kids read the constitution. (23:44)
⢠[Marcus: Medical Training on live animals] That was the best training. Every time I had to work on a human, it was actually easier [because of it]. (27:06)
⢠[When they attempted to reassign me] my response was āYou made the hardest decision of my life the easiest. Iām out.ā (30:29)
⢠[Melanie] āWhen you have your mind, you can do anything.ā (37:08)
⢠Everything you did Monday thru Friday prepares you for the following Monday. (37:16)
⢠I went thru a lot of shit, I went through things I should have never done. So how has that made me better? Donāt look at it as āIām disabledā How does that make you better? (37:29)
⢠All these experiences led me to found the Care Coalition. (37:49)
⢠Iām a stalker on Social Media. I donāt post a lot, but I watch. Iām friends with most of the real high risk [people] ā because I started to watch their social media. (44:28)
⢠I have a friend that has a text train with his platoon. No suicides. They all stay in touch. (48:01)
⢠If you say to somebody: āI have your back. No matter what happens to you. Youāre gonna get thru this. Iām here with you. I think this is why we were successful at the Care Coalition. (50:04)
When I talk to and help folks, Iāll ask: āWhere do you want to be in 5 years? If they canāt tell me where they want to be in 5 years, and can only tell me where they want to be tomorrow, that is a huge red flag for me. (50:22)
⢠I think the biggest thing you can do is give a shit. (51:49)
⢠Iām not gonna sit back and watch something. Iām gonna take action. (52:01)
⢠Our approach is: Go find the vets; Connect; educate them about opportunities they have to improve their quality of life; and advocate for them when the hit a roadblock. Own the relationship ā donāt own the service. (55:00)
⢠The last bar fight I ever got in was with Chris [Kyle]. (56:40)
⢠Thereās a lot of people who try to do what they can do, but they donāt have the background and expertise to handle it. (58:42)
⢠What we offer at Americaās Warrior partnership is a group of social workers that are freaking experts at this. (58:49)

![KERI MILLS: Juris Doctor, Gold Star Wife, Public Speaker
Using the grief of a husband killed in action to fill a void in estate planning for fellow widows. Thatās the mantra of this weekās Team Never Quit Podcast guest, Keri Mills. Her transparent story of being a lackluster student to attending law school is inspiring, as she strives to educate other Gold Star families and service members in planning ahead in the event tragedy should strike. Keriās husband, Special Operations Chief Stephen āMattā Mills was killed in action along with 29 other Americans and a working dog when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan. With one knock on the door and one sentence, Keri went from being a married woman to a widow. Unprepared as she was for that life-changing event, it sparked her decision to help others be better prepared than she was.
In this episode you will hear:
Standardized tests are not my forte.
What I realized about who I am is that Iām a person that does what I say Iām gonna do.
I have worked for 8 ½ years to solve this problem.
If I can keep someone from having to figure things out ā the way I did ā itās worth it to me.
The stigma that comes with estate planning is that people think you have to have a pot full of money in the bank. Thatās not what itās about at all. Itās about setting up your legacy.
I donāt have any stories to tell about Matt because theyāre not my stories to tell.
Iām trying to carry on Mattās legacy.
There are 300,000 veterans in Houston.
The part that I see myself playing is education for the special operators and our community.
[Marcus] āThere needs to be a way to teach you how to get out.ā

ERIC OāNEILL
Former FBI Agent, Author of Gray Day and the Subject of Universal Studiosā feature film, Breach
n this weekās riveting episode, Marcus has a fascinating discussion with Eric OāNeill, former FBI counter-terrorism and counterintelligence operative. Eric played a major role in the arrest, conviction, and imprisonment of one of the most notorious spies in U.S. history ā FBI agent Robert Hanssen ā who was spying on behalf of the Soviet Union and Russia. Ericās first-hand accounts of some of his day-to-day activities are events that movies are made of. He has written about his experiences in Gray Day: My Undercover Mission to Expose Americaās First Cyber Spy. Eric is also a public speaker and security expert who lectures internationally about espionage and national security, cybersecurity, fraud, corporate diligence and defense, hacking, and other topics.
In this episode you will hear:
My job at the FBI was to go undercover. I never came out of cover.
There were foreign intelligence officers (spies) who sometimes were some of our own who were spying for other countries.
My father told me āYou have to chase your dreams, whatever they might be.ā
Iām going to stop spies & terrorists before they kill our citizens.
I was at Quantico [Marine Corps Training Base]. You earn it and you feel like you earned it.
When my wife and I were dating and people would ask me what I do, I would say āI work for the Justice Department as a Geo-Political Analyst.ā That would immediately end the inquiry.
There was an instance where a high-level spy was about to be arrested, and disappear, which told us there was a mole in our intelligence community.
The FBI went on a 22-year manhunt for a guy code-named Gray Suit, the biggest spy in U.S. history.
Each time you go after somebody who might be the target youāre after, you give them a derivative code name.
What made Robert Hanssen such a successful spy, is that he was a hacker. He learned how to break into computer systems.
When the FBI had not given him the role he wanted, he volunteered his services to the Russians and gave up 2 of our top spies in Russia for no money to prove he had access. One of them was executed, and the other was sentenced to hard labor.
Analysts are the cream of the crop in figuring out how to catch spies.
Hanssen was the best, most notorious spy in US history. He was the Michael Jordan of the spy world. Nobody did the damage he did.
I was always a bit of a hacker ā fascinated by computer systems. Breaking security, not to steal, but so I could understand how to make them stronger.
My mother holds the record for the most time watching the movie āBreach.ā
