Today I’m checking out the OMTech Spectra U1 Pro UV printer, and this is one of the most capable desktop UV machines I’ve tested. Like the standard U1 it uses a flatbed design with a generous print area, but the Pro steps up power and precision with improved hardware and better ink handling.
Right out of the gate, you get support for white and varnish channels built in. That means you can lay down full color with a white underprint on dark materials, or add varnish effects for gloss and texture without aftermarket hacks. The Pro also has an upgraded vacuum system and rigidity that keeps media flat and stable even on heavier stock.
The automatic height-sensing system is a real time-saver. For most rigid surfaces, it will sense and set the nozzle gap, and for tricky materials like glass or thick acrylic, you can control the gap manually for crisp, reliable prints. With resolutions up to 720 by 1440 dpi you’re seeing fine detail that holds up for signage, labels, awards, and small runs.
Another nice upgrade is the maintenance support. You’ve got automatic cleaning built into the workflow, easy access to the capping station and waste ink handling, and a quieter, more consistent print head than the entry model.
If you want a desktop UV printer that can handle white and gloss, produce stunning detail, and be dependable day to day, the U1 Pro is worth a close look.
