The Ikarus 280 series is the articulated version of the 260. Thanks to the steerable 3rd axle, it has the same turning radius as the 260. The prototype was introduced in 1971, the series production began in 1973. The 280.02 subtype was produced for the GDR until 1978. They had folding doors, Rába-MAN D2156HM6U engine and Csepel ASH 75.2-A8 gearbox.
