periwinkle | Omega getting DESTROYED by a TAS for over 10 minutes @periwinkle. | Uploaded January 2021 | Updated October 2024, 13 hours ago.
I could've tried to make this 10 hours long but I don't have the patience (or the disk space, frankly) to copy/paste that many times and then have to sit through hours of exporting the video and then uploading it to YouTube. Sorry if you were expecting more. :/
Executive summary: Normally, the game restricts you to firing any weapon at most once every 4 frames (this is 12.5 times per second in freeware Cave Story, or 15 times per second in the Nicalis ports). However, due to the way that the Machine Gun's autofire is coded, it is possible for a TAS to shoot twice as fast as that: By firing another weapon and immediately swapping to the Machine Gun and holding the button for another frame, the Machine Gun autofires on the held frame, allowing you to fire two bullets within a 4-frame window. This doubled firepower allows a TAS to easily (and very noisily) defeat Omega on the first cycle, before it even goes back into the ground.
