An illustration by Johann Moritz Rugendas from 1843 or 1844 shows the monolith wall at Ollantaytambo had at least a partial row of capping stones to make the top horizontal.
By the time of Hiram Bingham and Chambri in the early 1900's these stones had been removed.
They appear to be on the ground just in front of the wall as it is currently
