We’re stepping back over 2,000 years in time today as we explore Old Sarum, one of the most uniquely fascinating historical sites in southern England!
Located just two miles north of modern-day Salisbury, this massive site combines an Iron Age hillfort, a Roman settlement, a Norman motte-and-bailey royal castle, and the footprint of the original Salisbury Cathedral—all packed into one incredible, sweeping landscape. 🌾💨
In this video, we walk the enormous outer earthen ramparts, cross the drawbridge into the ruined medieval castle walls, and stand right inside the foundations of a 12th-century cathedral that was completely dismantled block-by-block when the clergy famously packed up and moved down to the valley.
If you love ancient history, dramatic English heritage ruins, and panoramic views of the Wiltshire countryside, this place needs to be on your travel bucket list!
Have you ever visited Old Sarum or the "new" Salisbury Cathedral? Let us know in the comments below! 👇
