Exploring the former Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Railway Junction in Rowsley which closed to traffic in 1968 and is now operated in part by Peak rail from Matlock to Rowsley South (a new station on the former sidings South of the village of Rowsley) In what has now been reclaimed by nature as a wooded area we find evidence of the old sidings. Further on we discover old stations and embankments plus access the viaduct as the line heads off North to the site of a terrible accident which occurred during the building of Haddon Tunnel. We also visit St. Katherine’s Church and see the memorial to those killed during its construction.
