A common sound you hear every day in New Orleans is Okra driving his pickup around the Bywater and French Quarter, selling his fruits and vegetables, calling out his wares on the bullhorn, usually singing in F# major. (Yes, I picked out the notes on my piano, and more often than not, it's C#, D#, F#.)
Whenever I hear him, his "song" is stuck in my head for an hour, and I silently compose longer pieces based around his simple, but to me beautiful theme.
Okra is one of the reasons why I love New Orleans.
