Yesterday I walked the floor of the 2022 Ohio State Coin show. The show was a great experience as always, and continues to be one of my favorite shows to visit.
The Barber Collectors Club had a very nice display of coins, medals, and bars from the collection of Barber himself. Some extraordinary coins there.
The public was buying strong and far more people were buying than selling. Most of the coins available were either widgets or high dollar items, very few type coins were available. Last year it was filled with great coins available below retail, but this year it shifted to all coins being offered at full retail.
I think objectively this is great for the hobby. True collectors are buying and holding coins, however, buying ‘wholesale’ isn’t the same anymore. Online spaces continue to be the best places for purchasing my inventory, but hanging out with friends and talking coin for a few hours never gets old.
