The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the city of Baltimore, Maryland.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Baltimore Police Department's Aviation Unit (“Foxtrot") located a vehicle reported stolen in a carjacking in Baltimore County and alerted officers with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) of the location of the vehicle. Foxtrot followed the vehicle with marked units on the ground close by. Multiple officers stopped the vehicle in the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue. Officers issued multiple commands to the driver at which time officers discharged their service weapons, striking the driver. Officers rendered medical aid until emergency medical services took over care. The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No officers were injured. A BB gun was recovered from the vehicle.
The IID will generally release the name of the decedent and involved officers within two business days of the incident, although that period may be extended, if necessary, pursuant to IID protocol.
