Here is a quick walk around a off-grid / back-up power supply I use that is fully topped up using only solar PV. It is also subjected to various modifications and changes over the years. It is a 48V system and currently has a 1.5kW inverter, 4 x 110Ah 12V gel batteries, plus another set of 110Ah AGM batteries. Currently the PV array has a peek output of 280W. Set at an output of 230V, as an experiment, it will work in tandem with a 500W Grid-linked system further saving on battery load but this is only possible on dull days as the inverter will detect over voltage if the loading is not adequate.
