In 2022, documentary producer Thomas Malkowicz traveled with WashU professor Fred Ssewamala as he returned home to Uganda, a country in East Africa known to have one of the youngest populations in the world. There, Ssewamala and his research team have been working for decades to alleviate the impacts of poverty on Uganda’s most vulnerable youth -- orphans. And it’s working, as they’re witnessing the lives and livelihoods of children, their families and communities improve. ‘Offering Hope’ takes viewers inside Ssewamala’s life and his life’s work to inspire audiences around the powerful idea that one person truly can change the world.
