Early research suggests that GLP-1 receptor agonists may also improve liver health and potentially slow—or partially reverse—changes associated with osteoarthritis.

Preclinical research on retatrutide is also especially interesting: animals lost weight while maintaining energy expenditure, unlike animals losing the same amount of weight through calorie restriction.

That metabolism-preserving finding has not yet been firmly established in humans, so it remains preliminary.

These drugs can also cause side effects, particularly gastrointestinal discomfort, and should be used under medical supervision.
