Hey what’s up everyone? This is Derek with Nerd Or Die.

And in this video we’re going to talk about the difference between OBS Studio Vs Classic. If you’ve ever streamed before, you may have already used OBS Classic, the original version of OBS. But if you’re new to streaming you can actually skip this video and move onto installing OBS Studio.

Why should you upgrade to OBS Studio?

OBS Studio has its code rewritten from the ground up. And this means a couple of things. The first is that it should perform better on your current system. Next, OBS Classic will actually be losing support from the developers - meaning that over time you may not see any updates at all. Actually the last update that I’ve seen for it has been in November, I believe. Now, let’s take a moment and say farewell to our old friend, as it’s time to move on to a better program, OBS Studio.

Now you may have heard the term OBS Multiplatform before. This was actually the name of OBS Studio before they decided to just rename it. It was called Multiplatform because this version is meant to work across all major platforms. From my experience I’ve noticed that it works great in Windows 7, 8 and even 10 - and I’ve also tried it out on Mac OSX. If you’re a Linux user, you can install OBS Studio and stream to Twitch as well.

So now let’s talk a little bit about plugins. A great thing about Studio is that popular plugins have been included with the build and installation. This means that you’ll have a source capable of playing videos without doing any extra work. It also means that you can run something like the CLR Browser source, which is my personal favorite source, without any problems if you install the right version. And these are something that I’ve received a lot of requests and comments about. How to set these up, troubleshooting these, etc- to where this change alone is something that I would feel is great, to go ahead and dive into OBS Studio because of.

An interesting difference for OBS Studio Vs Classic is that all sources are now all global in Studio.

So the next thing that I want to touch on is filters. Filters I believe is something that people aren’t really used to yet, and may be one of the reasons that you’re not switching. However, filters are one of the most powerful features that OBS Studio, at least in my opinion.

Last, but certainly not least is Studio mode. If I had to compare OBS Studio to Classic, one of the biggest things I’d tell you is that OBS Studio is designed with higher quality production in mind. Studio mode gives you the capability of setting up and making changes to your scenes in a “behind the scenes” sort of fashion. Once your changes to the scene are looking how you’d like them to look, you can hit a button and have your scene pushed live.
