Family separations were vigorously defended under Obama's administration. His immigration advisor Cecilia Muñoz said: "Even if the law is executed with perfection, there will be parents separated from their children. We don't have to like it." But we have to accept it.

The same attitude under Trump was widely heralded as a sure sign of the rise of Nazism warranting apoplectic hysteria. A double standard is at play wherein business as usual is transformed into something extraordinary warranting mass mania, literally warranting hunting down federal officials in the streets and at their homes for doing what is in fact nothing especially out of the ordinary, ie, nothing that normally causes mass mania. In essence, a fake-news hysteria.
