The U.S. economy is on the right track. A deficit tracking graphic shown in The Washington Post illustrates good news for the U.S. and the Obama economic team.
Budget deficit as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) shrank from 9.9% in 2009 and 10.6% in 2010 to 8.3% in 2011. The deficit may be large but its shrinking and heading in the right direction. As a percent of GDP the recent Bush deficits remain the worse since World War II.
The lack of media coverage about the improving economy seems to slight President Obama and favor the Republican opposition. Unfortunately the good economic news may remain mostly hidden because a right-leaning media seems to be preoccupied with parroting negative and misleading Republican talking points.
Opinion based on White House economic figures, a Washington Post graphic, and the lack of economic analysis and media coverage.
