The 1866 Battle of Trautenau occurred during the Austro-Prussian War when the Prussian Second Army encountered Austrian forces after navigating the challenging passes of the Giant Mountains. The Austrians suffered a decisive defeat at Nachod, but simultaneously, the Prussian I Corps under Adolf von Bonin found itself vulnerable in the open as it passed through Trautenau towards Pilníkov. The Austrians emerged as victors, although the casualties were high on both sides, with the Austrians losing around 5,000 men compared to the Prussian losses of 1,400. Despite the setback, the position of Austrian General Gablenz became untenable as the Prussian V Corps broke through at Nachod and the Prussian Guard Corps threatened his flanks. In an attempt to escape encirclement, Gablenz sacrificed a significant portion of Grivicic's brigade at Burkersdorf and Rudersdorf. In 1868, a monument weighing fifty tons was erected in Trautenau to commemorate the battle, with General Gablenz being buried beneath it.

The Battle of Hastenbeck took place on July 26, 1757, during the Seven Years' War. It was fought between the French army, commanded by Louis Charles César Le Tellier, Duke of Estrées, and the Allied army of Hanover and Great Britain, led by the Duke of Cumberland. The battle was a part of a larger campaign in which the French sought to conquer Hanover, an important ally of Britain. The engagement was characterized by a series of manoeuvres and counter-manoeuvres by both sides, with neither gaining a clear advantage.
In the Battle of Hastenbeck's aftermath, both commanders were dismissed, and it is one of the few curious battles where both sides lost, rather than won.
