Here is a test that I did of the new ShadowPlay feature introduced for Nvidia's 600 and 700-series graphics cards. I used Nvidia's GeForce Experience software to optimise Batman: Arkham Origins, and then played through a section of the game capturing in high quality 1080p 60fps using H.264 codec. Nvidia claims that such a setup will reduce performance by around 10 per cent.
I was really happy with the outcome of this test. While the game did slow down at times, it's an easy way of capturing your gameplay. You can either get the software to automatically buffer video of your gameplay, or you can start and stop it manually using a keyboard shortcut.
I wouldn't use this system in replacement of my Elgato Game Capture HD setup, but it is worth noting that Nvidia's solution will record at 60 frames per second at 1080p, which most commercial recorders will not (they will only do 30 frames instead, or 60 frames at 720p). It's also more difficult to do a voiceover using this setup.
That said, the gameplay capture had overall minimal impact on the game itself, and the resulting video is of excellent quality in 1080p native resolution.
