The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition will launch with retail availability on January 30, 2025. We have the card in hand and benchmarking is in progress, but we're not able to show or discuss those results yet — stay tuned!
The 5090 Founders Edition comes with new eco-friendly packaging that features no plastics and all recycled paper for the main box. The design of the card has identical dimensions to the previous generation RTX 4090 Founders Edition, with the exception of the width. The 5090 is a 2-slot design while the 4090 featured a 3-slot design. It also weighs almost one pound less.
The two fans are now both on the same side of the PCB and feature a double flow through design. The main PCB sits in the middle of the card, allowing air to flow through the radiator fins and help dissipate heat better. Other changes include an angled 16-pin power connector, far more flexible cables on the 4x8-pin to 16-pin adapter, and carved out sections of the radiator fins to optimize airflow.
The 50-series also brings DisplayPort 2.1b support to Nvidia GPUs for the first time on a consumer card, with full UHBR20 (80Gbps) support on the three DP2.1 connections. The HDMI 2.1b port allows for up to 48Gbps total bandwidth, but only 42Gbps for data. Based on specifications and expectations, you'll really want a high refresh rate 4K 240Hz monitor to pair with the RTX 5090 cards for gaming purposes.
