You’re watching the first keel block moving from the Blast & Paint chamber to the Ship Assembly and Outfitting Hall. Here, it’s placed into a support frame, called a cradle, on the build line. It will now be consolidated with other blocks to begin forming the first of class frigate.
Block 4 is the first to be laid down for NUSHIP Hunter and there are 21 more to go. The milestone represents the coming together of many different elements, some of them years in the making. It’s a proud moment for our people, partners, stakeholders and suppliers building the Hunter class frigates.
From every corner of Australia, they’ve helped to shape the frigate class. They took a concept to a digital design to a produced prototype. This work led to steel plates becoming units (with bulkheads, decks and compartments) to create the block you see here. 🦘💪
