Underwater footage of a nurse shark hunting smarter, not harder. 👏

For the first time ever, our shark scientists have collected "shark-cam" footage of a nurse shark following a pod of bottlenose dolphins. The kicker: the shark isn't following the dolphins to hunt them, but to eat the fish that the dolphins disturb in the sand using their echolocation.

Nurse sharks have historically been viewed as slow-moving, sleepy sharks that mainly feed on animals hidden in coral reefs. So you can imagine our scientists' surprise when this shark-cam footage revealed an energetic nurse shark making repeated 80ft dives from the ocean floor to the surface and back in order to hunt fish kicked up by dolphins. This recently published research is the first ever study to show that nurse sharks can perform rapid dives and feed with dolphins!
