For instance, if she had to cut the chicken’s throat herself would she say she enjoyed that too, or is she just so detached from the process that she doesn’t think of the violence her choices cause?It’s also important to apply Hailey’s attitude towards handling dead chickens to other species of animals. What we would think if someone said they enjoyed handling the flesh of a slaughtered dog? Most of us would find this abhorrent because we recognise that dogs matter morally. However, violence towards chickens is so normalised that we don’t apply our ethics consistently, even though chickens also matter morally.Sadly, we view certain species of animals as being so unworthy and so undeserving of our empathy, that we don’t even consciously think about them as we’re handling their mutilated and butchered bodies. However, it’s important that we connect with the reality of what we are paying for and live in alignment with the values we say we have by no longer paying for needless violence, cruelty, suffering and death to be forced on to animals.

Lab-grown meat has been DEBUNKED! 🥩 Earthling Ed 2024-02-06 | This farmer’s rebuke of cell cultured meat is exceptionally ironic considering the chickens we slaughter for meat have been selectively bred to grow to slaughter weight in about five weeks.This incredibly fast rate of growth means that the bird's young bones are unable to support them, breaking under the weight and strain of their disfigured bodies - resulting in painful lameness which prevents them from eating, drinking or even standing up. Many die from dehydration or starvation because they are unable to access food and water points. Organ failure is also extremely common, with millions of birds dying from heart and lung failure before they even reach the age of slaughter.So perhaps the real question we should be asking is, how can we ethically justify eating animals that grow so fast that their organs fail, they cannot stand up and they live in constant suffering?Sadly, this farmer is using her lack understanding about cell-cultured meat as a reason for deciding that it must be bad. However, not understanding how something works is not a valid criticism in and of itself of that thing. Would you ever send your dog or cat here? 🤯 Earthling Ed 2024-01-18 | If slaughterhouses are humane and the way we kill the animals we eat is ethical, then why don’t we take the animals we love to slaughterhouses when they’re euthanised?After all, we want our companion animals to be euthanised in the most humane way possible and for their wellbeing to be the number one priority, which is exactly what we’re told happens to animals in slaughterhouses. Yet, if someone tried to euthanise our companion animals by putting them in gas chambers and by cutting their throats, not only would we try to stop them, but they would be arrested for animal cruelty. So according to our laws and societal standards, killing animals in slaughterhouses is both an example of being kind and humane to animals and also an example of animal cruelty that you would be arrested for.The fact that we wouldn’t want the animals we love to be killed in slaughterhouses demonstrates to us that we already recognise that what happens in slaughterhouses is the opposite of humane.

He called the vegan sausages ‘luscious and lovely’ before being told that they were vegan sausages. One of the many great things about a plant-based diet is that you can choose whether or not to eat a plant-based alternative. However, the reason plant-based alternatives exist is so that people can have the choice to eat a product that is similar to an animal product but is more ethical.
