Sunday Choral Evensong continues with a festive service with Bishop Austin Rios, sung by the Choir of Girls and Adults, celebrating women’s ministries in the Diocese of California and the Feast of All Saints. Preceded at 3 p.m. by an organ recital by Associate Director of Music Christopher Keady.
Choral Evensong, a service of sung Evening Prayer, is one of the treasures of the Anglican tradition. The service guides us to lay to rest the concerns of the day and prepare for the coming night. It combines music, readings from scripture, and ancient and contemporary prayers. The music includes psalms, canticles and an anthem, all sung by the choir, with congregational hymns and an organ prelude and postlude.
The beauty of the music is offered to help us set our lives in the light of eternity; the same light which dwelt among us in Jesus, and which now illuminates us by the Spirit.
