Within hours of Ann Widdecombe's death, we were told there was nothing political about it. Days later, counter-terrorism police took over the case. So which is true — and why were we told otherwise so quickly?
This isn't a video about who did it — that's for the courts, and I won't speculate on a live investigation. It's a video about how we were told, and how fast the official account has shifted under our feet.
The sequence speaks for itself. A murder inquiry opens. The public is quickly assured there's no sign of political or terrorist motive. One man is arrested, then quietly released as no longer relevant. A second man is arrested two hundred miles away. And then, days after ruling it out, the same story is handed to Counter Terrorism Policing "following new information and evidence." Meanwhile, we were told promptly and repeatedly that the suspect is a white male — a detail that, rightly or wrongly, many have noticed isn't always volunteered so readily.
