Some treatments have solid evidence behind them while others contribute to MORE shedding or breakage.
A few important nuances:
🟢 5% topical minoxidil has some of the strongest evidence for stimulating hair growth.
🟢 Red light therapy may help support hair density when you’re using an appropriate wavelength/device consistently.
🟢 Peptide serums are promising, but the evidence varies A LOT depending on the specific peptides/formulation.
🟡 Biotin generally won’t improve hair growth unless you’re actually deficient.
🟡 Rosemary oil gets a ton of hype, but the evidence is still limited compared with established treatments like minoxidil.
🔴 Tight hairstyles + excessive heat can cause breakage and, over time, traction alopecia.
🔴 Rapid weight loss, illness, major stress, or inadequate nutrition can trigger telogen effluvium. This is why some people notice increased shedding while losing weight, including during GLP-1 treatment.
And remember: hair loss is not one diagnosis. The best treatment depends on WHY you’re losing hair in the first place!!
