There's a difference between being Black and being a Black American — and it's time we talked about it.
In this video, I break down the distinction between Blackness as a global racial category and Black American as a distinct ethnic identity shaped by chattel slavery, Jim Crow, and everything that followed. I get into the pattern of people distancing themselves from Black American identity until they need it, the history behind the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments and why they were written specifically for us, the one-way solidarity dynamic in movements like the Palestinian cause, and why it's time Black America built a political agenda that's actually its own.
This isn't about division. It's about honesty.
