This site was never meant to be easy to reach. Surrounded by water, cut off from land, and stripped of any obvious human access, Neak Pean defies everything we expect from an ancient temple. It isn’t dedicated to familiar gods, but to Nagas — serpent beings hidden in its name, geometry, and purpose. Why isolate a sacred structure so completely? Why design layers of separation instead of welcoming paths? The architecture suggests intention, not coincidence — and raises a disturbing question: was this place built to invite worshippers… or to keep something contained?
