As a follow up to my multi-day bike trip to Somerset, PA, I want to do more overnight rides but in the meantime, my other goal is to go to a location, find a central place to stay for a few days and do day trips on trails in the area. Just east of Philadelphia, PA is one such place. The Pittsburgh, PA area is another as is the Raleigh-Durham, NC area. These places have many close-by rail trails or ones that are within a 30-minute drive. This video is from such a trip. I stayed in New Holland, PA with my brother-in-law and his wife and did two one-day rides, each around 30 miles in length.

This video is of my 29.9 out-and-back ride on the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail. This is a very nice and easy trail right along the Susquehanna River. From where I parked in Columbia, PA, I found it a bit confusing to find the trail though it wasn’t difficult to figure it out after my initial mistake. After a few miles, the trail drops onto Front Street in Marietta, PA, and I didn’t see any indication to turn off Front at Bank Street to rejoin the proper trail. I ended up riding all the way on Front Street to Gay Street where I rediscovered the trail on other side of the railroad tracks that run along Front.
