Pre-Colonial Americans and their descendants have been mythologized and homogenized to such an extent that much of what people think they know about the people living on the continent prior to colonization is demonstrably untrue. I discuss some popular misconceptions about life in pre-colonial America as a starting point for more detailed examination of the archaeology of Eastern North America.
