Norman Houston OBE is director of the Northern Ireland Bureau in Washington, D.C.
Norman Houston has over 38 years of experience as a senior official in the Northern Ireland Civil Service, including 13 years working in a diplomatic role.
He has spearheaded the Northern Ireland Executive's international strategy in the United States and Canada since 2007. He was the first Northern Ireland diplomat to escort the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister into the Oval Office to meet with then-President George W. Bush. Norman has since facilitated similar meetings with former President Obama and Vice-President Biden.
During his time in Washington, Norman has strengthened the Bureau's profile on Capitol Hill and within the larger diplomatic community.
In June 2018, Norman was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) by Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II.
Norman Houston was born and raised in Larne (County Antrim). He has an adult daughter and son. He received a first-class honors degree in Modern History from The Open University in the UK.
