Nordheim Shooting Club - Yorktown (2026)
Most people have never heard of Nordheim, Texas. Population 336. Seven miles west of
Yorktown on a two-lane road through DeWitt County. Blink and you'll miss it.

Don't blink.

Back in 1895, German immigrants carved a community out of the South Texas brush along
the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway. They named it after Nordheim, Germany, the
hometown of the man who helped build it. And those settlers brought everything with
them. Their language. Their Lutheran church. Their brass band. Their love of community.
And their Schuetzen Verein. That's a shooting club, for those of us who didn't grow
up speaking German at the dinner table.

By 1897 they had organized the Fortschritt Verein, the Progress Club. By 1902 the
Schuetzen Verein followed. In 1927 the two merged into what we now know as the
Nordheim Shooting Club. And the octagonal dancehall they built that same year? Still
standing. Still hosting dances. Still the heartbeat of this little town more than a
century later.

Here's the thing about places like this. They don't survive by accident. They survive
because people show up. Every third weekend in May, the whole region shows up for May
Feast. BBQ and chili cook-offs fire up in the morning. Remote control tractor pulls
kick off at ten. The Minirod and Hotrod Truck and Tractor Pulls roll in through the
afternoon with over 40 entries rumbling through the night. And when the smoke clears
and the engines cool, Clint Taft and the Buck Wild Band take the stage and the
dancehall fills up until one in the morning.

That's not a festival. That's a tradition. And in Nordheim, they've been keeping it
alive for generations.

Oh, and one more thing. That old Broadway Bar down the street? That's where they
filmed parts of the 1984 movie Paris, Texas. So yeah. This little town has layers.

🎟️ May Feast is held the third weekend of May every year.
🚜 Events include RC Tractor Pull, Minirod Pull, Hotrod Truck and Tractor Pull,
BBQ and Chili Cook-Off, Craft Booths, and a Saturday Night Dance.
